Qu'est-ce qu’elle y trouve

TRADUCTION EN FRANÇAIS

One winter day is like all the other days in the high Alps. When the day dawns the sky grows pale, and suddenly a strange light, born one knows not where, a light which seems to come out of the snow itself, crosses the immense horizon. An icy wind rises which leaves nothing living on these abandoned heïghts. For three weeks the snow has leveled all the deep valleys, effacing everything, covering everything. No life appears on the crystal surface; no sound disturbs the profound silence. When the sun sinks again, far off behind the peaks of this immense horizon of pink mountains which stretch away a hundred leagues, one is afraid of the silence, the solitude, and this wintry death.
