52.1. Triboulet : A court jester in the time of Louis XII and Francis I. He is supposed to hâve died about 1528. On the stage Triboulet appears in Victor Hugo's Le Roi s'amuse, and in Verdi's opéra Rigoletto. He tried to kecp his daughter safe from the dangers of court- life by jealously hiding her from the world.

52.2. cul-de-sac Bucy : Scène of the second act of Le Roi s'amuse. The Bucy (or Buci) quarter of Paris lies betwecn the Boulevard Saint-Germain and the Pont-Neuf.
