Lettre autographe
2. Un « Mr. Lile » figure dans une lettre écrite le 9 mars 1600/1 par le capitaine Christopher Levens to Sir Robert Cecil: « Asking for rewards for services done on the occasion of the late rebellion. The most deserving were Sir Francis Darcy, Sir William Woodhouse, Captain Price, Captain Lovell, Captain Selby, Captain Malbye, Captain Riche, Captain Chatterton, Captain Gilbert, Mr. Lile, one of her Highness’ servants, and Mr. John Wells » (Historical Manuscripts Commission : Calendar of the Mss. of the Marquis of Salisbury, Part xi, 117). Il se pourrait que ce « serviteur de la Reine » fût notre auteur. 11 faut cependant faire remarquer qu’au seizième siècle l’on trouve assez souvent le nom de Lile ou Lyle.
