Extrait du Japan Weekly Mail, published at Yokohama, October 20, 1883. >The oQîcial Gazette (le journal officiel, •publié en japonais) states that, since the 13th (October) a constant haze >has pervaded the atmosphère of Sappora (Yeso, in lat. 43"" N. and long, •circa 141° Ë); and that the sun and moon are of a bloodred colour; *clouds of ashes fall continuously. The phenomenon is ascribed to some *volcanic éruption.'*
