quelque chose d'aussi beau, E.B
1. 12. il m'en a coûté cher. The use of en with coûter impersonal has become a regular idiom. It is difficult to say whether it originally meant 'it costs something' or it 'costs on that account,' but in modern French it has ceased to have any meaning that can be rendered in English. Notice the following from Racine (T/iéb. in. 6)
"Il m'en coûterait trop s'il m'en coûtait deux fils."
Cher is one of the adjectives idiomatically used with certain verbs as adverbs, E.B. Ace. 171.
1. 20. oonnaissant, one must supply tous, suggested by aucun above.
