ADVANCED FRENCH PROSE COMPOSITION

THE BEGINNER'S FRENCH puis the conversational method within the reach of teachers, and enables them to use French in their classes from the very beginning. Each of the forty-nine lessons contains brief statements of rules, short French texts, exercises in transposition, questions, grammar drill, and English sentences and passages for translation into French. The lessons are followed by sélections for memorizing, the conjugations of the auxiliary verbs, a list of irregular verbs, and a full vocabulary. The récent officiai changes in the French orthography are taken into account.

The INTRODUCTORY COMPOSITION, by the use of a connected story, maintains a unity of thought and interest throughout the reading lessons. It offers, in addition : Progressive Grammar Exercises in connection with thorough reviews; Progressive Exercises in Transposition; Questions for drill on the text of the Transposition Exercises ; Grammar drills ; Exercises in ' Translation and for General Review ; and a Vocabulary of ail the French words used in the books.

In the ADVANCED COMPOSITION grammar reviews are combined with translation work, based on sélections in French, and suggestive questions refer to thèse sélections, Numerous références are made to the new grammatical rules of the language, the more important of thèse rules being given in full. Especial attention is paid to idiomatic expressions, which are used whenever possible.
