SCENE VI
The candidate entered to make his speech. He unfolded a paper which he held in his hand, and began to address his colleagues very simply. He said that the riches of nations depended on agriculture, the noblest of ail professions. His speech was highly thought of, and when he had stopped, a dear little girl, as pretty as an angel, came in and gave him a book. His heart was touched at the sight and he kissed the little thing, for he loved children. This was doubtless why he was re-elected.
