We are taken in this Tableau to Suwarroffs own résidence iu St Petersburg, and there we see how the disappointment at his own failure and tlie ingratitude and slights of the Czar Paul hâve preyed upon the mind of the vétéran hero and broken down his health; he is dying, and into his room Hattouine is admitted as well as a messenger with the Czar's kind enquiries ; Suwarroff gives vent in bitter words to his pent up indignation and expires while yet speaking.
