A succESSFUL modification of the direct method, based on extensive classroom expérience. The aim of this book is to impart ability to speak fluently and distinctiy, knowledge of essential principles of grammar, and proficiency in reading and writing easy French. The text is in French except where in the early lessons it is advantageous to give directions in Engr lish. The material is divided into thirtyrthree units, each covering a week's work, and thèse are subdivided into lessons for each day. The book is designed for the first year of high school or the last years of junior high school.
