synonyms and indicate their proper use; to give more fully than has hitherto been done the proper combination, in spécial phrases, of prépositions with verbs and adjectives, and of nouns with their approprlate verbs ; to furnish a large number of carefuliy-executed illustrations and diagrams which shall really assist the reader to an understanding of the text ; to provide, not only a lexicon, but an encyclopaedia, by adding to the formai définitions of a large number of scientific and other terms gênerai explanations of the facts or objects of which they are the names; in short to produce an encyclopaedic dictionary which shall meet the wants of ail classes. *^
The Dictionary will be published by subscriplion and ia twenty-four parts or ** sections," to be finally bound into six quarto volumes. Although the printer hâve been engagea upon the type-setting for more than two years, the pablishers hâve waited until the labor of making the plates is so well advanced that the work can be regularly issued at intervais of about one month and completed within two years. The subscription price is be 10/6 for each part.
The parts will be strongly bound in flexible cloth, which will bear constant use, and will form a complète working édition of the book bound in twenty-four thin, flexible volumes. They will be issued so rapidly (once a month) that the Dictionary will soon be a usable part of the library of any subscriber. We therefore renommend that it be taken in parts in préférence to waiting for the issue of the volumes.
