His superior is the recteur d^académie, in which expression axxidémie dénotes an administrative jurisdiction for educational purposes, comprising several départements (four or five), of which the recteur is the head, or gênerai superintendent. There are in France a score of recteurs and about 100 inspecteurs d^académie,
