lyun Mohican, t. e., of a North American Indian
Strictly speaking, Mohican (or Mahican) was the name of a loose confederaoy of N, A. Indiana aloDg the upper Hudson, which later migrated to western Ohio and there lost its identity (cf. Coopères ''Last of the Mohicans'*); while the Mohegans (or Monhegans) were a division of this confederaoy inhabiting the territory around the lower Ck)nnecticut. But the terms, although historically distinct, are usually confused.
