At tbe request of several leading members of tbe Scbolastic Profession, I hâve undertaken to compile an Elementary French Reader, suitable, on account of its price and contents, to Middle-Class and otber Schools. Tbe matter contained in tbis book will afford ample scope for tbe teacher to exercise bis pupils in conversation and elementary translation, wbile the bold type cbosen will make it more pleasant to read.

Tbe Yocabulary gives every word in tbe text, tbe plural of nouns and adjectives (wben formed otberwise tban by the addition of s), and tbe féminine of ail adjectives, tbus avoiding tbe use of a dictionary. For purposes of reference, I bave added a list of regular and irregular verbs.

I trust tbis little volume will answer tbe purpose I bad in view wben compiling it, and meet witb tbe approbation of Teachers.
