TO THE READER

The following " notes " are reproduced, almost without altération, from a document of the Québec Législature. They are written in the style peculiar to blue-books without any pretensîons to literary merit. We^think however that they are of interest from more than one point of view.

At the end of thèse notes is an article of a very diflferent nature. It is a mère fanciful sketch but, under its gay and lively form, it contains historical information which, if not ail unpublished hitherto, is none the less valuable.

The notes and the article are from the pen of Mr. Ernest Gagnon.
