SECOND EDITION

In this édition, many of the choicest morceaux from thc modem literature of France hâve been introduced, in order more fully to exemplify the idioms used in the French language of the présent day. The sélections are intended, by the variety of their style and subject, to serve as models for composition, and as text for recitation, reading and conversation ; they include also numerous quotations on history, geography, statistics, &c, taken from the est and most récent authorities. The whole of the Répertoire has undergone a complète révision, each extract having been carefully collated with the original text in the best Paris édition of the work from which it has been selected, and thus every endeavour made to ensure the most précise orthographical accuracy. Typographical correctness also has been most diligently attended to. Thèse important objects could only be efTected by much labour and expense, but the favour with which the former édition was received has created an anxious désire to oiFer to the public a production vying with the best and most useful of the kind ever published in this country.
