14, 15. Saisi de respect ... son cœur .... This sentence is not strictly correct. It is of course elliptical. Il fut saisi de respect ... et son cœur se fendit. But the ellipsis makes the construction faulty. Grammatically, saisi seems to agrée with son cœur, whilst, logically, it must agrée with il, the subject, which is omitted.
