Scène V

1. Perrichon is very vexed, because Armand has once again tried to save his life.

2. He has no fear of his formidable adversary, because he knows that the police will prevent him from fighting.

3. The Major has settled his note and now arrives from Clichy.

4. It is already noon, but they will be able to reach the field of honour at two.

5. This does not suit Perrichon, because the authorities will no longer be there.

6. He must therefore promise to return to Switzerland in order to efface what he has written.
