SOUS HENRI VIII

Le British Muséum renferme, sous le n“ 1419 A, du fonds Harléien , l’inventaire de la garde-robe du roi Henri VIII, au moment de sa mort, en 1547. Ce précieux document a été utilisé, d’un côté, par M. Georges Scharf, le savant directeur de la National Portrait Gallery, qui en a publié des extraits dès 1 863 2; de l’autre, par M. Wornum, qui a reproduit, dans son Holbein , la liste des tableaux de a collection. Seul, l’inventaire des tapisseries ri’a jusqu’ici, que je sache, fait l’objet d’aucune notice. C’est cette lacune

que je me propose de combler aujourd’hui, en commençant par l’inventaire du palais de Westminster'.

Les descriptions, très sommaires en ce qui concerne le sujet et la composition, sont au contraire très pre'cises en ce qui concerne les mesures de chaque tapisserie. Nul doute qu’à l’aide de ce- renseignement, on ne puisse retrouver et identifier un certain nombre de pièces provenant d’une collection si justement fameuse.
