At the suggestion of many teachers of expérience, Messrs. Dent commissioned Mr. J. Ayton Symington to design a new set of Wall Pictures of the Four Seasons. The pictures are of artistic quality, and represent essentially French scènes. Sniall reproductions of thèse pictures are included in Dentés First French Book, as an aid to pupils in their home-work.

The volume» of this vocabulary consist of 12 full-page illustrations, each containing from twelve to fifteen pictures representing farailiar objects, carefully grouped ; on the page opposite each illustration the French désignations are given, not only of the objects themselves, but of the words and phrases naturally suggested by them.

The illustrations and vocabulary form a valuable means of enlarging the pupil's knowledge of French words, especially as they give not only substantives, but aiso adjectives, verbs, and idiomatic phrases. It is évident that they can be used to good advantage, whether the teacher is an adhèrent of older methods or of the reform method.
