A WORD TO BEGINNERS IN TRANSLATION

Understand well that words which are the same in both languages or hâve little diflference, either in spelling or pronunciation, are avoided in our Vocabulary. I often hâve pupils who thoughtlessly corne and tell me that such a word is not in. A little thought would solve the question. Thèse remarks hâve led me to give hère a little help to beginners ; no doubt, with thèse few hints, they will easily multiply their own vocabulary of words, if they take good care to learn them with their gender.

For instance, it is easy enough for a learner to see what the English of the foUowing must be :

misérable possible noble

admirable éligible ignoble

capable visible

détestable horrible

Notice té become English ty

In verbe a great many are much alike, and even the conjugation to which they belong is soou acquired.
