Neuilly, a very pretty suburb, west of Paris

34, 3. du pont Louis-Philippe, one of the bridges connecting the island Saint-Louis with the right bank of the river.

NOTES

5. dépavé, deprived of its pavement (which had been used to build barricades).

6. citoyen. The communists, copying the old Commune of 1792-1794, had banished the word monsieur from their vocabulary and had replaced it by citoyen (citizen).
