Conte de Pâques This story is based on a religious tradition very popular in the southem part of France. As the church bells remain silent on Good Friday and Holy Saturday and only burst forth in joyous chorus on Easter Sunday, the children are told that the bells go to Rome the day before Good Friday to be blessed by the Pope, the head of the Church, and that they retum on Saturday to be ready for the célébration of the Résurrection on the foUowing day.
