TEMPLE OF AMADA
WKI.L ABOVE THE RESEIiVOin LEVEE 10() R. L.
TIlis Temple is hvo tliirds fuH of sand, wliich is perhaps a good thing, unlil fuilher prolection can be afforded; Inil when deaned oui there are many lintel and ceiling slahs to be repaired in places. This vvoiild not be a very expensive undertaking, cosling, perhaps, L.E. 3oo. I sliould advise that, when this monument is cleared, the original enclosure walls be restored in dry stone, and carried slightly higlier tlian it was originally; stone can be easily got from the surrounding désert. This will not only keep ont ihe natives, but also the sand, especially if from time to time cleared awav from outside; on this reacli of deserl , sand will always be the diflTiculty. 1 see but little sign of modem destruction of this Temple by the natives, but 1 advise that the ahove works be donc as soon as possible, it being an historical monument of both Thotmes III and Amenophis II.
