COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVES, AS A RULE, FOLLOW THE NOUN

30. When superlative adjectives précède the noun, and are used either with the definite article, or possessive adjective, the definite article of the superlative adjective is dropped, e.g.:

les édifices les plus grands, or:

les plus grands édifices (the superlative les is dropped) ; nos édifices les plus grands, or:

nos plus grands édifices (the superlative les is dropped).

31. Very often, the French superlative is rendered in English by the corresponding comparative, e.g.:

nos plus grands édifices may mean both: our biggest, or our bigger buildings.
