c) Indirect Object (see p. 318, No. I, c
(8) The indirect object pronouns are used for both genders indifferently, e.g.:
quand Augustine lui apporte la dépêche: when Augustine brings him (to him) the wire (p. 189, No. 690).
qu'est-ce qu'il lui dit, à Marianne?: what does he say to her, to Marian? (p. 134, No, 389).
quand on leur jette des noisettes: when one throws them pea-nuts (p. 107, No. 223).
(9) It is very important to distinguish carefully, in English, between the indirect and the direct object pronouns, as in English the préposition to, or at is often omitted before those pronouns me, thee, him, her, it, us, you, them; in French, at least for the third person sing. and plur., the distinction is necessary, because those same pronouns, in the direct object case are différent ones (see p. 318, No. I, e, third pers. sing., and plur.).
