III. CJESURAL PAUSE
1. A line of more than eight syllables always has one principal pause, called cœsura, and usually one or more minor pauses.
Son astre dans le ciel || se lève et te conduit.
2. The caesural pause is regularly placed so that it may be succeeded by six syllables in the same line, i.e. in hexameter, after the sixth syllable ; in a verse of eleven syllables, after the fifth syllable ; in a verse of ten syllables, after the fourth ; of nine syllables, after the third. Verses of less than nine syllables have no fixed pause within the line.
