Page 181 * — z. Judas le Machabde. Judas Maccabeus, who freed Jerusalem from the Syrians in 163 B.C. Cf. page 167, note 5. Esprit Flechier (1632-1710) had compared Turenne to Judas Maccabeus in his Funeral Oration on the former (January 10, 1676). He had taken his text from the book of the Maccabees (1 Mac. xi, 20-21).
