Page 10. — 1. la Rochelle. In 1627-1628 Richelieu besieged the Huguenots of La Rochelle. They had revolted and seized the island of Rl. An English force which had landed to aid them was driven from the island with great loss.

2. mldia trice. In the Peace of Breda (1667) between England and Holland, the ally of France. It ceded the Dutch settlements in America to the English.
