This fragment, given by G. de Chénier and Moland under the heading _Élégie italienne_, was meant for the concluding lines of a poem.

L. 1. _je me confie en vous._ _Se confier_ is constructed with _en_, _dans_, _à_, _sur_.

L. 4. _vous admette... à sa présence._ _En sa présence_ is generally said.

L. 6. _Hier_, a dissyllable. It was a monosyllable in the older language, as indeed, etymologically, it should be.
