Page 4, line 10. qui cherchent, etc. — "For which no means of steering hâve yet been found."

1, 13. sont . . . lui-même. — "Are the means of compressing, concentratiug the globe into itself." The last two words are scarcely necessary. The author is, of course, speaking of the réduction of distances by rapidity of transit and communication.
