BULKELEY A MONTESQUIEU

Autographe.

I. Montiffiiy-Lencoiip (Seine-et-Marne). Cf. »

« I beg, when you write to the Président, that you will make him my compliments, if he remembers me, and that you will tell him that the booksellers hâve sent for i5o copies merely upon the name and the réputation of the author, that the booksellers of Geneva hâve added i5o copies more which are actually in the custom-house, that our booksellers are preparing and hâve engaged an able man ' to translate it into english, and that, if he has any altérations or additions that he did not think proper for that country or climate, if he thinks fit to communicate them to me, I shall transmit them to the booksellers to be inserted in the english translation, that by this means he will be at liberty to say many things that his own country will not admit of, without being accountable for them. The translation will be begun immediately; therefore I should be glad to receive his orders soon, if he has any on that head ^. ^>
