BUREAU INTERNATIONAL MARITIME DE ZANZIBAR

lier Majesty^s Vice-Consul to the Marquess of Salisbury.

Zanzibar, December 30lh, 1896.

Hy Lord,

I hâve the honour to report that on the âlst instant, a meeting was held of the International Maritime Bureau which, in the illness of Mr. Cave, Her Majesty's Acting Agent and Consul-General, I attended.

The meeting was convened for the purpose of electing a new secretary, which was found necessary owing to the fact that the former secretary, M. Jeannier, became delegate after the departure of H. Labosse, Consul for France. At the commencement of the proceedings Baron von Rechenberg, Vice-Président of the Bureau, in the name of the whole assembly expressed his great regret at the sad death of Signor Cecchi, the late Italian Consul-General, at the hands of Somalis on the 26th ultîmo, and after the adoption of the Procès- Verbal the Vice-Président mentioned that the name of M. Mannoni, an employé in the Messageries Maritimes Company at Zanzibar, had been proposed by M. Labosse then Président of the Bureau, prior to his departure fur Europe, but that the proposai had not been put to the vote owing to the number of delegates then présent being insufficient. The proposai was then renewed and carried unanimously.

The Vice-Président next proposed that, owing to the fact that three out of four of the delegates (viz British, Prench, and Italianj were only temporarily acting in that capacity, the élection of a Président and Vice-Président

Le Vice-Consui de S. M, BrUanmque au Marquis de Sali<sbury.

Zanzibar, le 30 décembre 1896.

MlLORD,

for the year 1897 would be postponed until the arrivai of Signor Cecchi's successor. This motion >vas aiso carried and the proceedings soon after terminated.

I hâve, etc.

{s.) J. K. KeSTELL CORNISH,

Her Majesty's Viix-Consul.

For Mr. B. S. Cave.

(s.) i. K. KeSTKLL CORNlSH,

Vice-Consul de Sa Majesté.

Pour M. B. S. Cave.
