First Unes of lhe theory and practice of surgery.
Monsieur ,
avec la plus parfaite considération ,

My dear Sir,
Your obliging lelter , dated the 15 th ins * was duly received, and I thank you for your kindness in informing me of your intention to translate into french , and to enrich with notes the work written by me under the tille of the : First Unes of the theory and practice of surgery. Although this elementary book contains numerous observations , for which the world is originally indebted to the eminent surgeons and pathologists of France, I arn certain lhat your design of adding notes to lhe french édition, will be a considérable improvement of the publication. The existing différences with regard to certain points of practice in France and England , would alone without any otber considération render such notes very désirable.
Présent my best respects to professor Bayle , and mention to liim bow much I shall feel interesled in looking over the translation , as soon as lhe copy , which lie is so obliging as to promise me , shall reach ils destination.
Wishing tlie undertaking every possible success ,
I bave the bonour to be ,
My dear Sir, yours very respectfully ,
Samuel COOPER.
