QERMAN WITH OR WITHOUT A MASTER

I vol., $1.00.

SPANISH WITH OR WlTHolt^jA 2 vols., $1.00 èach.

The advant^es claim^d fôrthiâloitild ài^:

(a) The Icssons are mofttly based'on object-teachingj thus aaso* dating perception clirectly with the foreign expressions.

(â) Nearly ail the lessons are in shape of conversation, in order to continually drill the student's ear and tongue.

{c) The most useful is always taiight firât, so that the student's mind is not overburdened with rules and words.

{d) Where rules arei to be given, they aro illustrated by striking examples. •

(e) The pronuncfation of ail new words is carefully transcribed and the idioms or other difficulties afe thôrpughly explained so that the students, if necessary, can progress without a teacher.

The method is designed :

(i) For self-instruction : the student in such case reads over aloud and several times each lesson and then asks himself the questions of the book, answering them.

(2) For reciprocal instruction in clubs or parties of friends, each member alternately taking the rôle of the teacher, asking the questions and letting the others alternately àixswer. This has the 1 advantage over self-instruction that Ihe ear is drilled in catching tlitt foreign sounds by hearing other people's voices.

(3) For schools in which a course in conversation is desired, besides the ordinary course in grammar and translation.

(4) For schools that hâve large classes or cannot give a grtat deal of time to languages ; as in this book the students find aU difficulties explained, so that they can do a great deal of work outside of their recitations.
