PREFACE

X DID not at first intend to publish the Key to the exercises contained in my Method ; but experience has convinced me that such a book is always of great utility to the learners. Besides, I have received so many encouraging commendations from persons who have been enabled through the medium of my German Method, and the Key to the Exercises, to acquire that language without the aid of a master, that I feel it incumbent upon me to publish also a Key to my French Method. I trust it may prove as successful, and be an additional service towards the study of foreign literature in England.

It may perhaps be necessary to remind the learner who studies without the assistance of a teacher, that he should on no account oonsult the Key till he has well considered and carefully corrected the sentences which are to be • compared with it.
