Summer was coming on rapidly (à grands pas) . . .
During the long weeks a curions work was going on (s'était fait) in Juliette's mind...
Since the day, when she had rushed into the apartment of the rue Pierre Charron, her thoughts had taken shape (se précisaient). She remembered the party given on her tenth birthday (pour ses dix ans) ; she heard thèse words : " In your grief, you hâve only thought of yourself.". . .
One day, Miss Douglas told her (annonça), they would take an excursion to the forest of Sénart and the little girl jumped for joy. . .
They left the carriage at the inn, and Miss Douglas took a lovely little path... Soon Juliette ceased chattering and walked holding Miss Douglas' hand... They stopped before a gâte, where thèse words could be read : " Asylum Juliette," thereupon (sur quoi) she rang. . . The portress answered : " Madam Louise told me (m'a prévenue) that a strange lady would ask to visit the asylum — she niust be in the garden."...
" Listen, Juliette — I will (vais) speak to you as to a grown person... I hâve some hope that this Madam Louise is Madam Daloz — but I am not certain... Try first of ail to calm yourself (te remettre), for I shall require your aid... You will follow this path. When you see me seated near Madam Louise, approach softly." . . .
Madam Louise, on hearing footsteps, got up and came toward (se dirigea) the visitor...
As she turned, Juliette saw the poor careworn face of her pretty mamma. . .
Madam Daloz, on hearing her daughter's history, half fainted, but she recovered on feeling a little face, wet with tears, against her own, on hearing thèse words uttered (balbutiés) between two sobs : " Mamma — my adored little Mamma ! "
