La vie et l’œuvre de Henry W. Longfellow ont fait, non seulement en Amérique, mais dans le monde entier, l’objet d’un si grand nombre d’études critiques publiées sous forme d'ouvrages, d'articles de journaux et de revues, de notices bibliographiques,etc. que nous ne pouvons songer à en donner la nomenclature complète. Nous nous bornerons à énumérer les principaux ouvrages ou articles de revue consacrés au poète et à l’ensemble de son œuvre et ceux que nous avons dû consulter plus spécialement pour notre étudg du poème d’Evangéline.

Ajoutons que toute cette littérature biographique et critique concernant le plus populaire des poètes — et des poèmes — américains est loin d’être d’un intérêt égal, surtout pour le lecteur français.
