Ces vierges de plâtre, etc. In Lorraine, as far east as the Vosges Mountains, almost every house has an image of the Virgin ; and on Aug. 15th, Assumption Day, a bunch of raisin noir is placed in the hands of the image, which with this décoration is of ten carried in a procession around the church. The raisin noir refers to the dark colored varieties of grapes f rom which red wine is made, in opposition to the raisin blanc, which produces white wine.
