PREFACE

The sériés of French works publîshed for the Syndics of the Cambridge Unîversity Press îs meant to comprise exclusively productions of acknowledged merit, and I earnestly hope that the two volumes which introduced the collection last year may hâve prepared the student to receîve with favour the présent annotated reprint of Collîn d'HarlevîUe's amusing comedy.

I hâve only to add that the System of annotation is exactly the same as the one adopted in the case of Piron's La Métromanie^ and of M. Villemain's Lascaris. At the end of each act are inserted short literary appréciations from the best critics, and the text has been carefuUy revised on Messrs Didot's édition.
