1. Jacobins, this club was thus called on account of its meetings taking place in a building formerly occupied by monks of that name.

3. Cordeliers, this club which afterwards joined that of the Jacobins, was founded by Danton, Marat and Camille Desmoulins. Its members used to meet in a building- formerly belonging to the Cordeliers monks ; the same now contains the médical collections gathered by the famous physician Dupuytren and bears the name of Musée Dupuytren.

4. Danton, (1759-1794), was a member of the Convention Nationale, the promoter of the Eevolutionary tribunal and one of the directors of Committee of public safety, (Comité de Salut public). He and his friends were sentto the guillotine by Robespierre in 1794.

5. Desmoulins (Camille), (1762-1794), was one of the leaders against the Bastille in 1789. He died on the guillotine on April 5, 1794, and to the last minute displayed the greatest courage.
