CESSER POS

life was usefulness and the spring of all his actions was religion, With scarcely a failing to cast à shade over the collective splendour of the estimable endowments which were united in his character and conduct, who that knew him can avoid dwelling upon his memory with a sorrowful Joy, and feeling that a great blank has been made in our social cirele, and that one of the most worthy of our Elders has been gathered to his Fathers,

The funeral took place at 11 o'elock vesterday morning. It proceeded with all the solemnities of the Catholic ritual from his late residence to the Cemetery attached to the Catholic Church of this town, It was preceded by about fifty boys in surplice ; — then the ofliciating clergyman, the Very Rev. W,.J, O'Graby, B. D, V, G., accompanied by the VENE- RABLE the ARCHDEACON of York, next the family physicinns and then the Coflin supported by the members of the Executive Councilas Pall-bearers, It was the largest and most respectable funeral we ever witnessedin this country ; — it was attended by all the virtue, rank and intelligence of the town and its vicinity, and the countenance of every individual whom we had an opportunity of observing in that vast assemblage, demonstrated the high respect in which Mr Pauy was held, AI business was suspended— every shop and office were closed — there was no manifestation of Sectarian feeling — the whole community appeured as one common family united together in bewailing this melancholy bereavement. What an evidence does not this aflord, that however men may rave and look furiously at each other on the minor questions of polities, all can yet agree in paying the tribute of their united respect to incorruptible virtue and integrity. Catholies, Protestants, Presbyterians and Methodists were
