vent of Good Shepherd, these are some of the works peculiarly associated with that religious order of which you are the distinguished head.

The Catholic people here can never, nor would they ifthey could, cease to hold in loving remembrance that band of holy priests to whom they owe so much.

The pioneer Oblates are swiftly passing away, Deep in our memories are the great services of such indomitable priests as our late deeply lamented Lord Bishop d'Herbomez, Fathers Horris, Chirouse and Pandosy. Their labors are over ; they have gone to their eternity of reward, leaving behind a perpetual monument in their works of charity and beneficence. To work in other places for the church, after spending their best strength and years in the civilizing and Christianizing of this Province, has been the duty of not a few of the Oblate Fathers, and in this connection we recall with deepest feelings of affection Fathers Mc Guckin, Fouquet and Martin.

Chief among those of the pioneer priests that yet remain, is our holy Bishop, whom may God long spare to be an example to the clergy, and father to the people of this diocese.

Men pass, the church remains, and though our hearts are saddened when we think of these counsellors of former years departed, or grown venerable in the service of God and of humanity, yet we are rejoiced

that the Oblate Fathers are the same yesterday, to-day and forever, in their fervor and charity ; that they are true to their trust, and faithful to their charge, now as in times past.

To you, Very Reverend Sir, we tender a particular homage, as being a prist of exalted position, learning and piety. The Church is threatened, and even tie sacred personofChrist's vicar is not free from insult. On this western continent, malice and mendacity have conspired to place Catholics without the pale of their just rights as citizens. It is at such a time that we hail an opportunity testifying devotion to that enlightened Holy Pontiff Pope Leo XIII, and of assuring you that in your person we gladly reverence the priesthood which has ever shown itself the protector of the people.

Cas. McDoxoucu, P. O. Bicoprau, J. M. McDonazp.

M. HAYESs,
