LORD LOUDON AU MARQUIS DE MONTCALM
Sans date, 1758.
I hâve had the honor of your letter of August 9th, releasing Heutenant colonel Young from the capitulation made at fort William Henry, in so far as to empower hini to serve in a civil capacity, in case His Majesty should appoint him lieutenant governor of Virginia.
I now take this first opportunity of returning you my sincère thanks, and of assuring you that I look upon it as an obligation conferred on me, which I shall
be glad of every opportimity of retiirniug to tlie marquis de Montcalm.
As I received a letter last night from the marquis de Vaudreuil, relating to the capitulation, to whom I liave wrote most fully on that subject, I shall not give you the trouble of repeating what you will see contained in that letter.
