in concluding this Mémorandum it may not be out of place to observe that of the results directly due to British Administration of the African Proteotorates, not the least satisfaclory has been the complète abolition of the Slave Trade, and the conséquent saving of the heavy expenditure formerly entailed by the maintenance of a squadron in East African waters.
