interrogation indicates émotion = ne voyez-vous pas ? See 1. 3. IL, 177, note.

3.— Stupides avec leur vol. This use of avec, with phrases that show something ridiculous, astonishing, is not rare : Voyez ce pédant, avec sa sotte colère ; Qu’il

est fatigant avec ses questions. Eender avec here by ‘over’ or ‘ with.’ Cf. 27, 10.

3. — L’on veut que je vole. In the sense here vouloir = prétendre, affirmer avec insistance, Eender idiomatically : ‘ what will they hâve me steal V

5. — La muraille. The general term for ‘wall’ is ^mur.’ So we speak of : le mur d’un jardin ; les murs dune chambre (76, 1) ; les murs dune maison ; les murs d’une ville. ‘ Muraille ’ is used especially of a thick and somewhat lofty wall : la muraille dune prison : les murailles d’une ville ; la grande muraille de la Chine.

8, — Et dire que. ‘ And to think that.’ Cf. for this force of dire p. 35, 1. 14.

10. — Si elle était là. Là h»s only a démonstrative force here, and must not be rendered as if opposed to ici. ‘ If she were here.’ Cf. p. 29, 1. 4, and p. 32, 1. 33.
