The Princess asked to see Mme Richard (fit venir auprès d'elle).

She told the governess that the lîttle princess was to be made quite at home in her new life before the arrivai of Prince André, whîch would soon take place; that she was not to begin her serious studîes before Autumn; she was to be happy enough to forget the past. She also informed Mme Richard that she might send money regularly to Wanda's mother, as she did not like a Bolinska to be in want.

When Mme Richard returned to their rooms she found her daughter looking at a small carriage, a lîttle horse, and a little groom. They went down together and Wanda, under the directions of Thomas, the groom, drove ail around the park.

Toward six o'clock, Wanda took her first riding lesson. Princess Thérèse was well enough to assîst at it.

The first dinner Wanda took with her aunt went oflF very well. She had been well brought up by her mother. The aunt was sur prised and understood that she would not hâve much to teach the child as to table manners (étiquette).
