AVEC GEORGES KEATE 17

Aux Délices, 3o juin 1760.

To pluck ils honours off, and sink it down, To teach an awfull moral in the dust 2.

Your honours, good and amiable Sir, shall not be pluck't down, your Muse shall not be laid in the dust

allow'd a little space

To shine, attract, then fade and be forgot >, etc.

By ail the saints of Rome you shall not be forgot. I see in your work Truth clad in her solemn garments. I'd rather admire Rome in your verses than at the Pope's feet. I was long depriv'd of your poem, thanks to this damnd war. At last it was convey'd to me. War ought not to be waged against Muses.
