To the Hon. Senator
Onesiphore Turgeon,
Bathurst, N. B.
Dear Senator and Brother,
The spirit of fraternity is the outstanding feature of our Order, forming, if it be permitted to say, a family within the great Family of Mother Church, we are linked together with that same fraternal spirit, which characterizes a true Christian family. Brothers, if not by blood, then by spirit and promise, we naturally condone with a brother ’s sorrow and rejoice in a brother ’s joy. While then, Senator and Brother, this well merited culmination of your life work must fill your heart with a legitimate pride and satisfaction, we brother knights make bold to claim a spécial share in this general jubilation over your promotion, as the honour conferred on one of our distinguished brothers reflects to the honour of the whole society of our whole family.
We, your brother knights, consider it a marked privilège to be in a position where we can tender you, Senator and Brother, our warm fraternal congratulations on your having reached so honourable a position in the Législature halls of our Dominion. We appreeiate the fact that you merit the position: we hâve studied with pride those long years of faithful service and earned attachment to your leaders and principles, we hâve been witnesses to the vigilance with which you hâve watched over the interests of your constituency and of the country at large. We hâve palpable evidence in your many good walks throughout the country of your conception of what a true représentative should be. We hâve marked that amiable disposition, that warm hearteHness, that splendid generosity and broadness of spirit by which ail men know you, and in face of ail these things, we say with truth that the honor is a thoroughly welldeserved one, bringing honor to yourself and to the power that hâve appointed you.
As brother Knights we trust that our Bathurst Council may be honoured for many a long year by having a Senator on our membership roll, and in token of our feelings towards you, may this cane, a gift from the Knights, be your support in the long years reserved for you when the shades are falling in the long evening of your life
