Bk., II, S. 3, p. 288, V

« Arise betimes, whiIeth'0;?a/-colour'd Morn, In golden pomp doth Mnij-daijes door adorn : And patient heare th'all-differing voyces sweet Of painted Singers that in grovesdo greet Their Loye-Bon-jours, eacli in his phrase and fashion From Ireuibling Pearch 1 ) uttering his earnest passion » (2).

C'est bien encore la méthode de Sylvester qui apparaît dans cette habitude d'accentuer l'opposition des idées par le contraste des mots :

« Hâve I rejected those that me ador'd,

To be of him, whom I adore, abhorr'd? » (3)

« For, as he is a spirit, unseen he sees The plots of Princes, and their policies ; Unfelt, he feeles » (4).

La satire que Browne fait entrer dans le premier chant du deuxième livre nous rappelle des vers analogues de Sylvester :

« The devilish politician ail convinces,

In murd'ring statesmen and in pois'ning princes » (3)

« For Nectar, poyson mixt in silver Cups ; Neither in golden Platt -ns doth he lick For sweet Ambrosia, deadly Arsenick » :

En marge.

« (Free from tlie divellish practices of Machiavallian Politicks) » (6) .
